#1082 Frequently Asked Questions on Bird Collisions with Glass Windows - Canada.ca 30.9.2022

https://www.canada.ca/en/environment-climate-change/services/avoiding-harm-migratory-birds/faq-bird-collisions-glass-windows.html

"Most bird activity occurs between the ground and the treetops. So most collisions occur from heights between ground level and up to the height of the tallest nearby tree. A building’s location, square footage and general reflectivity are better signs of risk than height." -- "Birds that live around buildings year-round can usually coexist around glass safely. But other birds have less familiarity with buildings and are at risk of colliding with glass during migration, and in their wintering areas. Younger inexperienced birds are also at increased risk, since their first encounter with glass could easily be their last."

#1081 Factors Influencing Risks of Glass Collisions for Birds - American Bird Conservancy 30.9.2022

https://abcbirds.org/glass-collisions/risk-factors/

"Studies have repeatedly found that glass that reflects vegetation, up to treetop height, is more likely to cause collisions (Gelb and Delacretaz, 2009; Gelb and Delacretaz, 2006; Klem et al., 2009; Kummer et al., 2016; Liu and Yanchun, 2017). Birds may also want to fly over vegetation through reflected sky, or around a structure, in landscape reflected in glass. Different heights above the ground have been used in legislation and guidelines as proxy for the zone where birds are most active, including 40 feet (LEED Credit SSpc55), 60 feet (see San Francisco and Toronto standards), and 75 feet (New York City)."

#1080 Glass facades are "the main culprit" for billions of annual bird deaths 30.9.2022

https://www.dezeen.com/2022/03/09/glass-collisions-bird-deaths/

"Birds tend to hit the lower levels of buildings at and below the treeline, where they are most active, the height of the building doesn't necessarily matter."
